Doing business in Australia? Excellent! Is it worth risking? Where to get information? How to succeed? Questions that kept us locked up. Any risk is a chance, any chance is a risk?!
How did it all begin?
Our adventure starts when the Croatian Chamber of Commerce plans a business trip to Australia at the end of the October 2017. We received a letter from Mrs. Davorka Car from the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, which attracted our attention. Dr. Damir Kušen, ambassador of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce with branches in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide, created a delegation of companies to meet. We recognized our opportunity and potential in Australia and wanted to be a part of this market. Our next step was to apply for participation in the business delegation.
Why is it good to be persistent?
Lack of persistence is often the main obstacle to success, both on a professional, business and personal level. We continued our research by asking for a meeting with the President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy Zagreb Dr. Zlatan Fröhlich to talk about finding opportunities, business partners and clients in Australia. After meeting and talking with Mr. Fröhlich, we received a contact from an IT company from Zagreb that is already operating in Australia. Given their experience in the market, we decided to contact them. Through Mr. Fröhlich, we learned that our General Counsel in Sydney, Mr. Hrvoje Petrušić, had phone conversation with Mr. Kombol (one of the interested business partners who had been expecting our call) and we contacted him.
Our story with a happy ending …
On 2018-02-02, we made the final decision to participate in the business delegation. This was a bold but cost-effective business decision. A few days later, Mr. Golubić, Secretary of the Australian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce in NSW, informed us that he had already found a company that provides similar services and offered to be our host in Sydney. We understood how important this was for us, and we were even more excited about the trip. Mr. Ravnić, from the IT company in Zagreb, convinced us that the market in Australia and New Zealand is quite “healthy”. They were also very friendly and communication was quite pleasant. His advice was that a good website and accompanying content in the form of a PowerPoint presentation is very important. He said that references would also help us and that we would need to provide references that are similar to the “core business” of potential clients.
How Do Business-Owners Manage Risk?
Good entrepreneurs manage risk responsibly, so we designed a brand new website, made a PowerPoint presentation and researched the Australian market. Our Australian adventure begins! The next step was buying a plane ticket, packing and traveling to the “continent of hope”.
The adventure of our life had come…
